Housing: The More You Know & More!

Day 3 - January 28, 2015

Housing is one of those mandatory meetings that you just need to somehow get through. Disney really does try to make it fun and interesting, but there’s no way getting around some of the drier topics. I do encourage you to ACTUALLY pay attention because they give some vital information, but my roommates and I also found this a good time to make a list of things we needed to so and still get for the apartment (our fridge in particular lol). This, again, is also a time to ask questions, because one this meeting passes, you will be held fully accountable for anything that happens within the complexes.

The main 2 sections of the meeting were focused on (1) resources and (2) safety.

Housing Facts: The More You Know!

  • Security, Drugs, & Alcohol:

    • If you are in a Wellness apartment you are not allowed to have cooking wine or any drug or alcohol paraphernalia.

    • If you are under 21, you are permitted to be in a Non-Wellness apartment, even at party, as long as you are not drinking or in possession of alcohol. You cannot even hold a drink for a friend if you are under 21.

    • Electronic cigarettes and vapes are not allowed in the complexes.

    • Hookahs are not allowed.

    • Toys and paraphernalia that resemble weapons are not permitted.

    • Light sabers are not permitted, but wands are permitted.

    • You can go to the front desk of your housing complex and get a 21+ ID if your 21st birthday is during your program.

    • You are permitted to have pepper spray as long as it is 2oz or less.

    • “Secure America” provides the security for the complexes.

  • Visitors:

    • Complex residents enter in the right lane and guests enter and sign-in from the left lane.

    • Any visitors under 18 years can only visit the complexes only accompanied by a chaperone and must leave by 7pm.

    • Any visitors that are 18+ years must leave by 1am.

    • The time between 7am and 2am is labeled as ‘quiet hours’ for the complexes.

    • You have to leave another complex by 1am, but you do not have a curfew for your own complex.

  • Rooms:

    • Relocation and consolidation happen when apartment occupancy reaches below 50%.

  • Front Desk:

    • Housewares items

    • Keys

    • IDs

    • Report maintenance issues

    • Packages

    • Rent items (eg: cleaning and recreational items)

What did I do with the rest of the day???

What did I do with the rest of my day after housing you might ask, well, my roommates and I planned an eventful night. First we drove over to the SuperTarget and so began Round #2 of shopping. We all bought food items we forgot to buy during our overwhelming Walmart trip and then headed back home. (We had a lot more room this time around.) A little later that night, we had our first “Disney” experience of the semester and took the bus to Downtown Disney for dinner.

I’ve passed this place every time I’ve been in DD, but I’ve never eaten there, so I was pretty excited to finally order from Earl of Sandwich. And let me tell you, it most definitely lives up to all the hype. I got the chicken chipotle avocado sandwich (or something along those lines) and kettle-cooked chips. IT WAS AMAZING!

Also, a trip to DD is not complete without a delicious Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate from Ghirardelli! We spent the rest of our time checking out the different stores, such as Tren-D and Something Silver.

We shamelessly spent the rest of night just laying around our living room and talking. This was the epitome of a “girl talk” night. (:

**Keep in mind, if you are driving to Downtown Disney, look for the signs pointing to where parking is due to all the construction that is happening in order to transform “Downtown Disney” to “Disney Springs.”**
