Disney College Program, Spring 2015

It's Registration Day!

It’s Registration Day!

Alright, so it’s 9:30am right now on a Monday morning and I’ve decided that writing to all of you is much more important than paying attention to my contract law class! Initially, registration was supposed to be at 12am EST this morning, but only 0.0004% of people were able to get in at that time, and according to Disney that is was only a trial run for registration (someone posted an email from Disney with that number…I promise I didn’t make that up lol). Everyone that was able to get in now has to re-register this morning at 10am EST.

How to get onto the site:

  1. You can type in “Disney Course Registration” and it should be the first option, or you can go to: http://cp.disneycareers.com/en/onboarding/fl/education/online-course-reg/

  2. Scroll to the bottom of that page and click on “Course Registration.”

  3. You want to find your session and pay attention to what date and time that course registration opens!

  4. Click on ”Register for a Class.

  1. You’re going to be taken to the “Course Information” page and it will have a list of all the collegiate, exploratory, professional courses and seminars, and distance learning that WDW and DLR offer.

  2. Course Types Offered

  3. Collegiate Courses

  • These are offered for credit through the ACE for 3 semester credit hours per class and have attached price tags (generally less than $30 a class). Each course is comprised of 11 sessions that meet once per week for 3-4 hours.

  1. Exploration Seminars

  • Only offered in WDW.

  • These are not offered for credit and are free. They are interactive and many have a guest speaker series. These seminars meet once a week for 2 hours, for 8 sessions.

  1. Professional Seminars

  • These seminars are major-specific and are allow students to study a specific line of business through Disney. These seminars are free as well and meet for 8 sessions, once a week, for 2-4 hours each.

  1. Distance Learning

  • Distance Learning is for those that are taking 1+ online class(es) through their college or university. By registering for this free option, Disney will be able to offer you help with scheduling and will be able to allow you study and coursework time.

  2. WDW Collegiate Courses

  2. Collegiate Courses

  1. You definitely want to look up the syllabi’s before the registration date comes around. You can easily look them up on Google and the hyperlinked course titles in this post should also take you to some videos on the courses as well as a syllabus for each course. (NOTE: If you’re looking to get credit from your college or university for a Disney course, make sure you take the syllabus of the class you choose to your advisor to get approved for credit, otherwise you may be out of luck if you never inquired and still take a collegiate course!)

The [Actual] Registration Steps:

  1. In order to log on you need to use your email as your username and a DORMS-specific password – not your dashboard password.

  • Some people said they received emails about logging on that provided them with their usernames and passwords, but I didn’t.

  • I went on and clicked “Retrieve Password,” entered my email, and Disney sent me a temporary password that allowed me to set up my own DORMS password.

  • NOTE: I set up this password the NIGHT BEFORE so the website wasn’t already crashing. I would highly advise you NOT to wait to set up your password right when registration opens up. Nothing, I mean nothing, works then!!

  1. So once you log in it’s going to first take you to a survey that asks about professional development seminars that you might be interested in. This survey does not mean that you’re signing up for the seminars you’ve selected. It does not even mean that they will be available during your program. All this survey does is give Disney info on which seminars have the highest demands.

  • I selected Events, Entertainment, Training & Development, Professionalism, Networking, and Personal Branding as my preferences for the two survey sections!

  1. Next it will finally take you to the course preference section.

  • First it asks about the Collegiate Courses. There are several sections for the higher demanded courses and less [obviously] for those that are less popular. The price is to the right of the class name, date range, time, and location. You want to click the ADD button for the course you choose.

  • If you don’t want a collegiate course, there’s a check box at the very top that says you’re not interested in this section and all the “ADD” boxes will go from blue to gray. You can then scroll down to the bottom and click NEXT

  1. Then you can go through the exploratory seminars. There is another check box at the top if you are not interested in any of these either. Click NEXT at the bottom.

  2. The third section is the professional seminars. Again, there’s a check box…click NEXT.

  3. The last section is Distance Learning. The check box is at the top, click NEXT.

  4. TA-DA! You are officially enrolled!

Troubleshooting:

  • I had multiple tabs open because everything was just loading.

  • Try going back instead of continuously clicking refresh.

  • **This really worked for me!

  • Have your password set up ahead of time.

  • Have a second option ready if Disney Heritage is your first choice! There were 4 sections for this seminar open and Disney was already waitlisting people an hour after registration opened!

May the Odds be Ever in Your Favor and Have a Magical Day!
